📸 Screen Capture & OCR

Set a capture region once and let the Workshop read the game screen for you.

In the Kith Workshop desktop app

Several tools can read the game screen instead of making you retype what is on it — resource stats, inventory contents, component numbers. You draw a box over the part of the screen that matters once, and after that a keypress captures and reads it.

Note: This is Windows only, and it reads your screen — not the game's memory or its files. Nothing is injected into SWG and nothing is automated in game.
Setting up the capture region

You do this once per thing you want to read.

An outline stays on screen showing where the box is, and a small floating 📸 button appears.

Tip: Draw the box a little larger than the text you want. A box cropping the last character of a number is the most common cause of a misread.

  • In SWG, open the window you set the box around.
  • Line it up with the outline. The floating button turns green when the alignment looks right.
  • Press the capture hotkey, or click 📸.
  • A review panel opens with what was read.
  • Fix anything wrong, then apply.

The hotkey is configurable in the capturing tool's settings.

Note: Always look at the review panel. OCR is good, not perfect — and it is far quicker to correct one number there than to work out later why a crafting plan is wrong.
Reading the review panel

Captured rows are colour-coded by confidence:

RowMeaningWhat to do
PlainRead cleanly and matched.Nothing.
Yellow — PICK VARIANTThe name was found but the reader is not certain which variant.Choose from the dropdown.
Red — NO MATCHNot recognised.Correct it in the dropdown, or untick the row to skip it.

Tick Show only issues to hide everything that read cleanly.

Getting good reads
  • Run SWG windowed or borderless. True fullscreen can prevent capture entirely.
  • Keep the game's UI scale steady. Changing it moves everything and your region no longer lines up.
  • Avoid overlapping windows. It captures the screen, so anything on top is captured too.
  • Higher contrast reads better. A dark game theme with pale text is easiest.
Tip: If reads are consistently poor, redraw the region rather than fighting it. A box that is slightly off is worse than no box at all.
